A particular interest

Axial spondyloarthritis.

Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a type of inflammatory arthritis that mainly affects the spine and sacroiliac joints. It is commonly mistaken for ordinary back pain, and often goes unrecognised for years.

Dr Dulay is the regional lead for axial spondyloarthritis in the SCAN network, has led regional projects, and has presented work at international meetings. In 2023 he received a national Changemaker Award at the Houses of Parliament for his work relating to axial spondyloarthritis.

  • Back pain that is worse with rest and better with movement
  • Stiffness first thing in the morning, lasting more than 30 minutes
  • Pain that wakes you in the second half of the night

Joint injections and ultrasound when needed

Scan and treat.

Dr Dulay has extensive experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound. Ultrasound can help assess joints, tendons and soft tissues, and is useful when investigating pain, swelling or inflammation.

Where appropriate, he also performs ultrasound-guided joint injections, placing the injection accurately under direct vision rather than by landmark alone.

  • Assessment of joints, tendons and soft tissues
  • Ultrasound-guided joint and soft tissue injections
  • Carried out by Dr Dulay himself, in clinic

Complex and persistent symptoms

FQAD and Long COVID.

Dr Dulay has a particular interest in patients with fluoroquinolone-associated disability (FQAD), and in Long COVID, including complex and persistent symptoms.

Both sit awkwardly between specialties, and both are areas where patients often struggle to find anyone willing to take the problem seriously. A straight answer is not always possible, but a proper assessment and an honest discussion always are.

Your appointment

What happens when you come in.

Before you arrive

Send over any GP letters, blood results or scan reports you already have. It saves repeating tests you have had done recently.

The consultation

A full history and examination, with time to talk things through and ask the questions you came with.

Scans and injections

Where it is useful, ultrasound can form part of your assessment, with ultrasound-guided injections available where clinically appropriate.

Afterwards

You and your GP both receive a written summary: what is going on, what is being done about it, and what happens next.

For solicitors and insurers

Medicolegal work.

Dr Dulay undertakes independent medicolegal work in rheumatology, providing expert opinion and carefully considered reports in relation to rheumatological conditions and associated disorders.

His practice encompasses the assessment of diagnosis, causation, treatment, prognosis, functional impairment and disability. He accepts instructions from solicitors, insurers, organisations and other professional bodies, and is also available to provide expert evidence where required.

For enquiries regarding medicolegal instructions, please get in touch to discuss the requirements of the case and his availability.

Not sure where you fit?

Send a few lines about your symptoms. If rheumatology isn't the right place for them, I would rather tell you that than take a booking.
